You post on the forums, write articles, or post (donate) pics of fish or your tanks etc, pretty sure its written up all the ways you can get them......I got some by getting other fish minded mates to join up

Here's a quick run down
You earn Gills for the posts and the topics you start on the forum. You will be able to trade these Gills in on members goodies. You will also be able to buy Lottery tickets with your Gills or just deposit them in the Bank to gain interest or buy and sell using our classifieds with specified ads.
Here is the list of amounts you earn Gills for :
Posting New Topic = 3 Gills
Post A Reply = 1 Gill
Submit Article = 500 Gills
Submit Photos = 200 Gills each photo that is approved.
Saving Gills In Bank = 1% Interest
Playing Lotto = 500+ Gills
Refering New Members = 150 Gills
You can spend Gills by :
Name Effects = 150 Gills
Title Effects = 250 Gills
Change Title = 5000 Gills
The purchase of fish and goods in the Classifieds
Avatar = 10 Gills weekly
Signature = 15 Gills weekly.
Thats pretty much it
